SAMIR KUMAR GHOSH (Paramapadma Dhiranandaji), a professional Yoga teacher and an astrologer was born in Calcutta, India in 1937. Even as a child he learnt the classical form of Yoga. Under the spiritual guidance of two wise Yogis and through a five year study, which trained him to be a classical Yoga teacher and helped him to develop the fundamental knowledge of Yoga.
In 1959 Dhiranandaji was initiated by Swami Hariharanandaji in Puri Ashram in the original technique of Kriya-Yoga in the tradition of Babaji and his successors (Lahiry Mahasaya, Sri Yukteswarji and Paramahansa Yoganandaji). Under the guidance of his teacher, Swami Hariharanandaji he quickly reached the higher states of Kriya. In 1977 Paramapadma Dhiranandaji received the order to be an authorised teacher of Kriya-Yoga in the west.
In the month of June 1977 he left for Europe and extensively toured and held regular seminars on the teaching of classical Yoga (Kriya-Yoga) in Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, England, Curacao (Dutch Antilles) and then proceeded towards America where he visited and held seminars in Miami, New York, Washington D.C., New Port, Bogota and Columbia teaching and preaching about Kriya-Yoga with a view of spreading the knowledge of Kriya-Yoga to the people in the West in order to fulfill the duty entrusted upon the Yogi. In the month of December 1977 after touring America he came back to Germany and started extensive teaching and spreading the knowledge of Classical Yoga (Kriya-Yoga) among the interested persons in Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and visited America on a regular basis up to 1982. But as more and more people in Europe started to get involve in the teachings of Dhiranandaji, he concentrated more on Europe. In August 1982 Dhiranandaji with the blessings of the Almighty and his Gurus reached the state of “NIRVIKALPA SAMADHI” the ultimate goal in the way of Yoga. Since then he has educated more than 46,000 disciples in the teaching of Classical Yoga (Kriya-Yoga and Astanga-Yoga) in America and Europe.
Dhiranandaji has set up a very detailed and elaborated teachers’ training school in Switzerland teaching about Classical Yoga (Astanga-Yoga) , which provides extensive training on Kriya techniques. Nearly, 50 teachers pass out every two years from his school.
Apart from teaching and preaching about the goodness of Classical Yoga (Kriya-Yoga and Astanga-Yoga) to mankind, Dhiranandaji is also very passionate about writing. Even as a child he used to write poems in Bengali and this hobby turned into a great passion for the Yogi during his later age. He wrote many articles in German and in English on astrological stones and about Kriya-Yoga which are regularly being published in the newspapers in Europe. He is also writing about the goodness of Classical Yoga (Astanga-Yoga) on a regular basis on Spiritual guides and his book Yogamrita (in German language) gained much popularity.
His passion for writing is so immense that despite his busy and hectic schedules he has taken out time and has written many books of poems in Bengali which are Bibek, Bandana, Biraho, Prakriti, Prem, Bibidah & Nabomanjari. Very recently a few selected poems from the above collection written by Dhiranandaji have been given music and a few songs have been created from the said creation of the Yogi which are available in 2 CD’s namely: “ANANDASANDHYA” & “RAJAR RAJA HE BISWARAJ”.
The basic roots of Classical Yoga (Astanga-Yoga) being from India, Paramapadma Dhiranandaji is also very much interested to preach and teach the goodness of Classical Yoga (Astanga-Yoga) in India. He visits India once every year and stays in Kolkata for about 6 weeks.
